Bell provides assistance to Lac-Mégantic, Québec

Communications support and $25,000 donation to Red Cross for disaster relief efforts
MONTREAL, July 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - With support for the Red Cross and on-site communications, Bell is assisting the people of Lac˗Mégantic following the train disaster of early Saturday:
  • Bell has donated $25,000 to support Red Cross relief efforts in Lac-Mégantic, which is about 200 kilometres east of Montréal. All mobile phone users across Canada can also donate $5 to the Red Cross to support relief efforts by texting ROUGE or REDCROSS to 30333.
  • The Red Cross has deployed a 16-metre (53-foot) emergency response trailer previously donated by Bell. The vehicle has already transported supplies including beds, pillows and blankets to support an emergency shelter for displaced residents.
  • To keep emergency workers and residents connected, Bell has donated mobile phones, landlines, Wi-Fi and free payphone service for the shelter.
  • The Bell team would like to thank our field technicians, network staff and emergency management team for undertaking emergency support and maintaining operations at the local Bell Central Office.
